About Me (Ryan)

Photography for me began as an escape. Often after a week at the JOB, I would pack up and drive to a location planned in my head as a great photographic opportunity. The entire process was always rewarding, even in the times where soggy socks were all I brought back.

To pay for those getaways, I had to put some entertainment aside and find a way to sponsor a growing hobby. It dawned on me to try and make that extra income using my camera and 10 years later to my amusement … here I am relying on this craft to provide for my family of four.

It’s not been all blue skies and rainbows, but so far the journey has been worth the effort. Personally I think blue skies can get pretty boring. There have to be valleys to appreciate the peaks.

My Thoughts:

A Photograph

Is a means to express time and space, through the eyes of another. As with any expression, some appreciate with understanding, some without, and some will not because we are not all the same.

A Camera

Is a tool, and as with any craft, only as good as the craftsman. There are some incredible craftsmen in this world, but I’ve found that when I take my eyes off the road, it’s harder to drive.

A Light

Is that which enables us to appreciate, often taken for granted.

A Shadow

Is that which gives depth, texture, and shape - a special ingrediant - only to be seen because of light.

A Darkroom

No longer has to be dark, but is still a place where a photographer cooks up a lasting impression.

My Attitude

I’d rather be humble, before humbled. I feel blessed, owe many people a great deal of gratitude, and hope to encourage others as I’ve been encouraged.

As my great grandmother would say

I must go now to “make a picture.”
